PPL stands for Phonographic Performance Limited, it is the collection society for musicians in the UK. If you don't know what a collection society is then in simple terms, these are the guys that collect all of the money that is owed to musicians when their music has been played live or broadcasted somewhere like TV or radio.
PPL represents tens of thousands of performers and record companies (from major names to small businesses and sole traders) and licenses hundreds of thousands of businesses and broadcasters – large and small – across the UK (Joining PPL and ensuring PPL royalties are paid, n.d.).
If you are a musician and haven't already signed up with PPL then you can do it through their website https://www.ppluk.com/. In the same regards, if you are a promoter and are putting young up and coming or unsigned artists on at your next event and they haven't signed up, give them a heads up... They may just return the favour one day when they make it in the big time and then you can cash your check too!
