So if you are looking to put on a late night rave and the venue is only licensed to serve alcohol until 11:00pm then you're going to have a very sad looking group of techno fans sitting on the curb outside your venue at closing time. So one way to avoid this problem is by applying for a temporary events notice...
Temporary Events Notice (TEN's)
Provided you are expecting under 500 guests you should be able to apply for a temporary events notice. This allows you to put on events in venues that are not licensed past a certain time after curfew or in locations that aren't normally licensed such as warehouses etc. You can get up to 5 TENs a year and if you already have a personal licence to sell alcohol, you can be given up to 50 TENs a year. However a single premises can only have up to 15 TENs applied for in one year which means if they have already ran out your application will be denied.
Licensable activity covered by TEN's includes:
- selling alcohol
- serving alcohol to members of a private club
- providing entertainment, such as music, dancing or indoor sporting events
- serving hot food or drink between 11pm and 5am
(GOV.UK, n.d.).
